Shopping with my girl #molly
Emma Stone - arriving at the Excelsior Hotel in Venice, Italy 08/28/14
Instead of a photo for #ThrowbackThursday, here’s a throwback memory of my mom, which came rushing back to me yesterday evening.
In my early pre-teens I went through a serious Spice Girls phase wherein I wore these black and white platform sneakers. Once while shopping at a J.Crew in Maryland with my mom and my cousin Annie, we noticed two teenage girls staring and pointing at my shoes, giggling and whispering to each other like they were the strangest things they’d ever seen. After a few minutes of listening to them, my mom announced loudly, for the whole store to hear, “If you’re going to keep staring, we’re going to have to start charging admission.” Red in the face and clearly embarrassed, they fled the store immediately. A saleswoman nearby gave my mom a nod of approval.
Thanks Mom for always sticking up for me and in doing so, teaching me how to stick up for myself. I’d have a hard time surviving in New York City otherwise.
